On Sunday 2/02/2020, London rolled out the red carpet for the 73rd British Academy Awards. Hosting the most prestige, and glamorous actors, including royalty themselves, Will and Kate, the BAFTAs was filled to the brim with talent. 1917 swept up the awards, collecting 7 BAFTAs in total, but the thing that swept us off our feet was the red carpet outfits.
This year, all attendees were asked to make sustainable choices on the red carpet as part of its efforts to be a carbon neutral awards ceremony and reduce the damaging effects of 'only wear once' culture. The award's committee urged the use of fashion rental sites- Hirestreet being amongst them.
With sustainability in our core, we at Hirestreet LOVE to see huge events tackle the ever pressing crisis of climate change, and we hope this could trigger a domino effect for other major networking events in the future.
We saw bold colours, from bright yellow to neon pink; show-stopping floor length gowns to sophisticated minis. Where do we start?
We, at Hirestreet, have complied a list of our favourite trends this red-carpet season, to make it easier for you to achieve the same look, for a fraction of the price. Keep reading to see our Style Steal Guide: BAFTAs 2020 Edition.
Keeping It Simple | Little Black Dresses
You can never go wrong with a little black dress, and actors such as Saoirse Ronan proved this, wearing a simple black, satin gown down the red carpet. Paired with a bold red lip and a slick back up-do, she emitted elegance and sophistication. Lucky for us, a LBD look is easy to recreate, stocking a range of black statement gowns, you can rock your own red carpet. Links to the dresses in the titles.
BOLD IN BANDEAU
Dare to show a bit of skin with a bandeau dress. Cut to accentuate the décolletage and shoulders, bandeau dresses add a spark of fire, whilst maintaining class and sophistication. Either go minimalist, like Zazie Beetz, with delicate bracelets, or go bold with a statement necklace. Style with a low bun, to lengthen the neck and exaggerate the elegance, or balance it with uncontrolled curls.
MAKE AN ENTRANCE IN METALLICS
Feel glamorously grunge with this up-coming 2020 trend. Naomie Harris shines on the red carpet in the once adored 70's-style, silver metallic maxi, made by the luxury fashion house, Michael Kors. With added shine, you are guaranteed to turn heads throughout the night. Pair with killer high silver heels and a small clutch to complete the look.
Bridget Jones' Wardrobe
Looking pretty in pink, Renée Zellweger stole our attention in a simple, yet effective, pink off the shoulder maxi dress. Styled with chunky, gold bracelets, and dewy natural makeup, Renée looked fresh and youthful on the red carpet. Alternatively, style with silver jewellery for the blue under-toned skin-tones, or stick with gold for our yellow-based beauties.

CRUSHING ON VELVET
Greta Gerwig looks a vision in an emerald-green custom Gucci velvet gown. This has channeled our love for all things velvet, a material which projects class and style, but traditionally partnered with a painfully hire price tag. Luckily for you, we have a more-wearable dupe, protecting your pride, and your pockets.
AS SEEN ON YOU!
We had the absolute pleasure to dress the gorgeous Jess @thelayoverlife alongside her ever so glamorous sister Emily @stylelobster. Both wearing Hirestreet dresses to beam down the red-carpet. How good do these two look?
